OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA TREATMENT
Appliance Applications
For patients experiencing sleep apnea or respiratory arrest due to a receding lower jaw, the jaw is brought forward during sleep using custom-designed appliances. In more advanced cases, surgical repositioning of the lower jaw may also be necessary.
In addition to apnea patients, if the patient has a weight problem, it is recommended that they lose weight with a healthy diet, gain regular exercise habits, quit smoking and alcohol consumption, avoid eating close to bedtime, and prefer a side position while sleeping.
